MWC 2018 – Nokia smart phones announced

Mobile World Congress #MWC18 is officially here. The most anticipated and biggest Mobile event . Industry leaders will gather, network, showcase, and exchange ideas during these four exciting event days.

What is Mobile World Congress?
Mobile World Congress is an annual trade show run by the GSMA (it’s for trade rather than members of the public). The location theoretically moves around Europe, but in recent years it has been held in Barcelona, Spain.

MWC is the biggest mobile event of the year, launch of many top smartphones, smartwatches and tablets, also talk about the future of mobile, like 5G, mobile chips, VR and other associated technologies.

The exception is Apple, although the trends outlined at MWC very much include the iPhone while many of the announced accessories are compatible.

Nokia says it has shipped 70 million new Nokia phones in 2017, and claimed it was the biggest brand in feature phones last year. For 2018, it says it will double down on smartphones and aims to do even better than it did last year.

Nokia 1 is the next model to be announced, another stock Android smartphone with Oreo on board. Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Offer, HMD Global has also announced the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6 (2018) at the ongoing MWC 2018 event. The new Nokia 1 smartphone is priced at EUR 85 (about Rs. 6,700).

Intel announced a partnership with NTT Docomo for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo at a press conference on the Sunday before MWC, as it talked up the 5G technology it used at the Winter Olympics 2018 to enhance the experience for fans and athletes.

Samsung opted not to launch its flagship Galaxy S device at Mobile World Congress last year, as it recovered from the battery safety issues which impacted its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in 2016.
