Curling – PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games

Curling is a sport in which two teams of four players each slide 40-pound granite rocks (also called stones) down a sheet of ice toward a target at the other end. Each team tries to get more of its stones closer to the center of the target than the other team. Curling is a game of skill and of tradition. A shot well executed is a delight to see and it is also a fine thing to observe the time-honoured traditions of curling being applied in the true spirit of the game. Curlers play to win, but never to humble their opponents..

sweeping in curling does some important things:
sweeping melts the top layer of ice in front of the rock and therefore reduces friction between the rock and the ice.

It fine tunes the throw of the rock by making the rocks travel further,
It keeps the players warm and provides much needed anaerobic exercise.
